The monsoon has once again become active across the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in 19 states and union territories. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected to continue for the next few days in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and several northeastern states.
Rainfall will bring relief to Delhi-NCR
According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is likely in Delhi-NCR over the next 24 hours. The sky is expected to remain cloudy throughout the day. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be 26 degrees Celsius. The rain may provide relief from the humidity and heat.
Threat of heavy rain in Gujarat and Maharashtra
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in several districts of Gujarat. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Narmada, and several areas of South Gujarat. Heavy rainfall is forecast in some areas, which could lead to waterlogging and flooding.
A heavy rainfall warning has also been issued for many parts of Maharashtra and Konkan-Goa. People have been advised to stay away from rivers, streams, and low-lying areas.
Alert in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the eastern districts of Rajasthan, especially in Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Bharatpur, and Udaipur divisions. Rainfall may intensify in eastern Uttar Pradesh, while the western regions may remain relatively dry for the time being.
An alert for thunderstorms, strong winds, and rain has also been issued in Bihar. According to the Meteorological Department, many parts of the state may experience heavy rainfall in the coming days.
Flood crisis persists in the Northeast
The flood situation in Assam remains critical. The number of people affected by the floods has reached more than three lakh, while the death toll has also risen. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Assam, as well as Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Mizoram for the next three days.
The IMD has urged people to monitor the latest weather updates and take necessary precautions during inclement weather. It has also been advised to follow local authorities’ advice before traveling to rain-prone areas.
