America’s second attack on Iran, military action again in 24 hours!
It added, “The Commander in Chief has directed the strikes to hold Iranian forces accountable.”
American media The Wall Street Journal reported that this was the third American strike on Iranian targets in 24 hours. A senior US official was quoted as saying that the new attacks were focused on near the strait and coastal areas of Iran.
At about the same time, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps opened fire on civilian ships passing through the sea route, according to Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesman for the US command center.
According to American media CNN and The New York Times, Hawking said that American aircraft shot down an Iranian cruise missile and a one-way attack drone. “We are holding Iran responsible,” Hawking told The New York Times.
Iranian state media reported explosions in Jask, Qeshm, Bandar Abbas and Sirik in Hormozgan province in southern Iran. CNN said initially there were no reports of any civilian deaths or damage to homes or shops.
The new US operation follows attacks on Iranian missile and air-defense systems and IRGC small boats around the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, The Wall Street Journal reported.
According to Fox News, US forces struck about 140 Iranian military targets overnight, bringing the total number of attacks over three nights to more than 300.
Iran attacked US-affiliated places and countries in the region over the weekend. Kuwait said three northern border posts were damaged. A drone also attacked an offshore drilling platform of Kuwait Oil Company, injuring a worker.
Iran claimed that it had targeted a US High Mobility Artillery Rocket System launcher in Kuwait. CENTCOM rejected the Iranian report that US soldiers were killed. “There are no reports of deaths or injuries to US service members in the area,” it said.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed deep concern over the renewed fighting, including Iranian attacks on ships, US attacks on Iran, and Iranian attacks on neighboring countries.
“All these attacks must stop,” Secretary-General Guterres said. He warned that a resumption of large-scale hostilities would have dangerous consequences for the region, international security and the global economy. He appealed to Washington and Tehran to immediately resume talks.
