Delhi riots case: Tahir Hussain found guilty of murder, court’s big decision in IB officer Ankit Sharma case
New Delhi: Karkardooma Court on Monday gave a major verdict in the murder case of IB officer Ankit Sharma related to the riots in North-East Delhi in February 2020. The court has convicted former AAP councilor Tahir Hussain of murder. However, the charge of criminal conspiracy against him was dismissed. There were a total of 11 accused in this case. The court has found 5 of them guilty. The verdict was also pronounced on the remaining accused. The sentencing hearing will be held separately.
Dead body was found in the drain, 51 wounds on the body
This matter is of 25 February 2020. IB officer Ankit Sharma had gone missing during the violence that started in support and protest of CAA. A few days later, his body was recovered from a drain in north-east Delhi. An FIR was registered in Dayalpur police station on the complaint of Ankit Sharma’s father.
The post mortem report shook everyone. According to the report, Ankit had 51 marks of sharp weapons and other attacks on his body. Deep wounds were found on the head, face, chest, back and waist. Delhi Police had filed a charge sheet in this case under several sections of the IPC including murder, kidnapping, rioting, destruction of evidence and spreading communal disharmony.

The charge of conspiracy against Tahir Hussain could not be proved, but the court accepted the charges related to murder and riots as true.
2020 riots and its impact
In February 2020, violence lasted for 4 days in North-East Delhi. This violence started with a clash between supporters and opponents of CAA. The miscreants targeted houses, shops, vehicles and religious places. Arson and vandalism occurred. 53 people died and hundreds were injured in this violence.
Ankit Sharma’s case has been one of the most talked about cases in Delhi riots cases. This decision of the court is being considered an important legal development so far in the 2020 riots case. Now after debating on the punishment of all the culprits, the court will give further verdict.
