All the ten Indian boxers in the semi-finals took a step further at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, reaching the gold medal bout on Friday.
Preeti Pawar started the run with her unanimous decision win in women’s 54kg in the first Indian bout of the day. Ankush Panghal, in men’s 80kg, joined her an hour later in the same way.
In the second session of the day, Jaismine Lamboria (women’s 57kg), Arundhati Choudhary (women’s 70kg), and Jadumani Singh (men’s 55kg) all won their respective bout.
In the final boxing session of the day, Sakshi Chaudhary (women’s 51kg) made quick work of Canada’s Amber-Jane Wall while Sachin Siwach (men’s 60kg), Lovlina Borgohain (women’s 75kg), and Narender Berwal (men’s +90kg) all followed suit.
The biggest scare of the day was, however, reserved for Preeti Ghanghas in women’s 60kg.
She won the first round against England’s Lucy Kings-Wheatly 4-1, before the opponent returned the favour.
With things stacked against her, Ghanghas fought back to win the third round and the bout unanimously.
India had sent a 14-boxer contingent to Glasgow, and ten of them have now made finals.
Double gold in Judo
Elsewhere, India bagged two gold medals in Judo, having never won a single one so far in history.
Asmita Dey, competing in women’s -48kg, earned the honour of being the first Indian, beating Canada’s Heidi Quach on a golden point.
Harsh Singh in men’s -60kg followed suit soon after, as he took down Australia’s Joushua Katz 10-0 in the final.
Yamini Mourya added another medal for India in the event, winning silver in women’s -57kg.
Double podium in javelin throw
In javelin throw, Neeraj Chopra and Yashvir Singh complete a double podium for India.
Neeraj took the silver medal with a 85.83m effort, while Yashvir produced a stellar 85.41m with his final attempt to jump into the bronze medal spot unexpectedly.
This was just minutes after Tejaswin Shankar bagged India’s first-ever medal in decathlon, winning the bronze with a total score of 7976 points.
The Indian mixed 4x400m relay team also made it to the final, clocking 3:20.98s.
Santhosh and Yashas, however, failed to impress in men’s 400m hurdles, finishing seventh and eighth respectively.
