India’s Asmita Dey won the gold medal in the 48kg category of the Commonwealth Games judo event, defeating Canada’s Heidi Quach in a dramatic contest. The 23-year-old from Tripura fell behind early and was also awarded a penalty.
However, they made a remarkable comeback, winning 1-1. Neither side could find a decisive score in the four-minute contest, which sent the match to a golden score.

India’s Harsh Singh became the first Indian male athlete to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, defeating Australia’s veteran Joshua Katz in the men’s 60kg final on Friday.
23-year-old Harsh, who was participating in the Commonwealth Games for the first time, played brilliantly without losing his composure against Joshua, who was considered a strong contender for the title.
Neither player seemed to dominate in the early stages, but Harsh played aggressively in the final 41 minutes. Joshua is a multiple winner at the Oceania Championships and the Australian National Championships. He won bronze at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 and is also an Olympian. Undaunted by his experience, Harsh played with great composure. Joshua’s parents were also former judo players. His father was a coach for the Australian Olympic team.
