India regained complete control after initial shock
England looked to be in complete control in the early stages of the innings, with Bethell and Duckitt scoring freely, taking advantage of the fielding restrictions. Their 61-run opening partnership indicated that the hosts were heading towards a strong total. However, India did not let the game slip away. The bowlers maintained disciplined lines and lengths, forcing the England batsmen into mistakes and gradually breaking down the batting order. Every wicket increased the pressure on the hosts, and the visitors took advantage of it brilliantly.
After 17 overs, England were down five wickets for around 80 runs, losing wickets rapidly. This dramatic collapse completely changed the complexion of the contest, putting India in a strong position, even though England had got off to a good start.
With several overs still left, England will now depend on their lower middle-order to build important partnerships and take the innings towards a competitive total. India, on the other hand, will look to continue their consistent bowling performance and end the innings early to give their batsmen a manageable target in the series opener. Bumrah’s landmark wicket of Brook has certainly become one of the defining moments of the match so far, highlighting his class and ability to perform in crucial situations.
