The debate over district renaming has once again erupted in Uttar Pradesh politics. BSP chief Mayawati has expressed her happiness over the Yogi Adityanath government’s decision to rename Bhadohi as Sant Ravidas Nagar, but she has also placed a new demand before the state government. Mayawati wants Kasganj district to be renamed after BSP founder Kanshi Ram, just as Bhadohi’s old name was restored. Interestingly, the names of both Bhadohi and Kasganj were originally changed during Mayawati’s tenure as Chief Minister, but were later reversed by Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party government.
Expressed gratitude by writing a long post on X
Mayawati thanked the Yogi government through a post on X. Mayawati wrote that during her government, Bhadohi was given the status of a district headquarters and was named Sant Ravidas Nagar, but the SP government that came to power later changed it. Now, the Yogi government has restored the old name. The BSP is grateful to the state government for this. In her post, Mayawati targeted the Samajwadi Party. She stated that during the BSP government, several new districts, tehsils, and police zones were created for administrative convenience and public welfare. Most of these were named in honor of great saints and figures from the Dalit, oppressed, and backward classes.
Special Demand for Kasganj
Referring to Kasganj district, Mayawati stated that it was made the district headquarters and named “Manyvar Kanshi Ram Nagar” for the development of the Braj region, but the SP government, in its so-called anti-PDA policy, changed its name. Mayawati has now appealed to the Yogi government to rename Kasganj after Kanshi Ram, similar to Bhadohi. She also stated that if this decision is taken before or on the same day as Kanshi Ram’s death anniversary on October 9th, the BSP would be especially grateful to the state government.
