Iran’s refusal from IAEA inspection on nuclear sites, Tehran’s tough stance amid increasing tension with America

Tehran. Amidst the increasing tension between America and Iran, Tehran has taken a tough stance regarding its nuclear program. Iran has made it clear that it will not allow International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors to re-enter some of its nuclear facilities. This statement has come at a time when there are possibilities of talks between the two countries on the nuclear issue.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry criticized the recent US military action, alleging that the attacks had damaged months of diplomatic efforts. The ministry also says the US interfered in Iran’s process of implementing security measures related to the Strait of Hormuz.

Clear denial on IAEA inspection

When Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai was asked whether Iran would allow IAEA inspectors to visit nuclear sites again, he clearly said that this will not happen at the moment. He said that Iran is not in favor of accepting this request.

This stance has come to light at a time when talks are said to be continuing between Iran and America regarding the nuclear program on the basis of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). However, this agreement does not set any specific deadline or binding conditions for either party.

  • Shock to American hopes

A few days ago, US Vice President JD Vance had expressed hope that IAEA inspectors would soon be able to reach Iran’s nuclear facilities again. But Iran’s latest statement has put an end to these possibilities for now.

A senior Iranian negotiator also said that any decision related to nuclear inspections would be part of a broader agreement with the US. No decision will be taken to allow separate inspection.

    History of 2015 nuclear deal

Under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) signed in 2015, the IAEA was allowed to conduct regular inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities and operate monitoring equipment. The purpose of that agreement was to keep Iran’s nuclear program within peaceful limits.

However, US President Donald Trump had taken America out of this agreement during his first term. Iran then gradually began to limit IAEA monitoring and expanded uranium enrichment activities.

    Increased concern of western countries

The continued expansion of Iran’s nuclear program and its refusal to undergo IAEA inspections has increased the concern of many Western countries, including the US. They say Iran has reached the capacity to produce near weapons-grade enriched uranium, which could impact regional and global security.

On the other hand, Iran has consistently claimed that its nuclear program is only for peaceful and civilian purposes and does not aim to develop nuclear weapons.
