ICC Rankings: India overtook England to achieve top spot
India had slipped to second place after losing the T20I series against England earlier this month. However, a strong win over Zimbabwe has changed the equation. Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan played a crucial role in India’s victory. Ranked No. 1 in the ICC T20 rankings for batsmen, Ishan scored a brilliant 81, while vice-captain Tilak Varma scored an unbeaten 60 off just 29 balls to help the team reach 219. Ishan Kishan’s 81-run knock took his T20I runs to 783 in 22 matches in 2026. With this, he surpassed Virat Kohli (781 runs, 2022) for the most T20I runs in a calendar year.
