A tragic accident occurred on Friday in Yavatmal district, Maharashtra. The bodies of a woman and her two daughters were recovered from their SUV, which had been swept away by floodwaters. All three had been missing since last Thursday.
The accident occurred when the family was traveling to the Loni area of Ahilyanagar district. Due to heavy rains, the Kupti River in the Darwha area was overflowing the bridge.
The driver failed to accurately assess the depth and strong current. While trying to cross the bridge, the car was swept away by the strong current.
As the vehicle was being swept away, Avinash Khandare, with his presence of mind, grabbed a tree and saved his life. However, his wife, Madhavi, and their two young daughters were swept away by the strong current inside the vehicle.
He was unable to save them. Police and disaster management teams arrived at the scene after receiving information about the accident. The administration conducted an intensive search operation throughout the night. The bodies of the three were subsequently recovered.
Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast widespread rainfall for five days in Maharashtra. The department had issued red, orange, and yellow alerts for several districts.
Earlier this month, 13 people were killed and 10 others injured in separate rain-related incidents in the state in a single day.
