A Congress delegation left for Siwan on Saturday to investigate the incident of AK-47 firing on protesting students in Bihar’s Siwan district. Speaking to IANS, Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi said the delegation would speak to the affected students and officials, conduct a fact-finding investigation of the entire incident, and submit its report to the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
Imran Pratapgarhi alleged that the government is treating students and youth as its enemies and that this aspect will also be investigated. The Congress MP was given a warm welcome by party workers at the Patna airport.
Speaking to the media before leaving for Siwan, the Congress MP said, “The brutal treatment of students is one of the biggest issues today. This government is not a government for students. It uses force against students, including firing and using pellet guns.”
Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi said that the way the police treated female students and young women in Delhi, not just in Bihar, including abuse by male police officers, shows that this government has no concern for the country’s students. The Congress Party has formed a fact-finding team. As part of this fact-finding process, we are visiting various districts and gathering information about the entire incident.
Bihar Congress state president Rajesh Ram said that he has reached Jehanabad today with the fact-finding committee constituted by the All India Congress Committee to investigate the police brutality on youth and students during the student movement.
