Glasgow , August 2. If India’s boxing prowess shone on Saturday at the Commonwealth Games 2026, with both men and women boxers putting up a historic performance to win a record 10 medals, including seven gold and three silver, then long-distance runner Gulvir Singh also created history.

First Indian to win two medals in athletics event of the same edition
In fact, on the fourth day after winning the silver medal in the 10,000 meters, he also won a bronze medal in the 5,000 meters. With this, he became the first Indian athlete to win two athletics medals in the same edition of the Commonwealth Games.

Reigning Asian champion Gulveer won the silver medal in the 10,000 meters on July 28. Today, he finished third in the 5,000 meters, clocking 13 minutes 24.95 seconds. Matthew Kipchumba Kipsang of Kenya won the gold medal with a time of 13 minutes 23.61 seconds, while Australia’s Robinson took the silver.
Gulveer won the bronze medal in the 10,000-meter race at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
It’s worth noting that 28-year-old Gulveer also holds the national record in the 5000 and 10000 meters. He won a bronze medal in the 10000 meters at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
Interestingly, on Saturday, the 10th Saturday of the 23rd edition of the Games, a day before the conclusion of the competition, Indians won a total of 16 medals, including 10 in boxing, placing them fourth in the medal tally behind Australia, England, and Canada. Indian athletes won a total of eight gold, five silver, and three bronze medals during this period. India now has a total of 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver, and nine bronze.
