New Delhi. It was a memorable evening for India at Commonwealth Games 2026. Indian athletes performed brilliantly in Glasgow, Scotland, and brought home numerous medals. The Indian tricolor flew proudly on every field—boxing, judo, and athletics.
India created double history in the men’s javelin throw. Star Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal with a season-best throw of 85.83 meters. Meanwhile, young Indian athlete Yashveer Singh produced the best performance of his career, throwing 85.41 meters in his final attempt to win the bronze medal. The gold medal went to Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Taranga Pathirage with a record throw of 89.75 meters.
Neeraj Chopra took an early lead, but a massive throw from the Sri Lankan athlete brought
the competition to a close. Neeraj tried his best to make a comeback in his sixth and final attempt, but his final throw was a foul. Despite this, Neeraj and Yashvir standing together on the podium sent the Indian team into a wave of joy. Both athletes celebrated this historic moment with the tricolor.
After winning the silver medal, Neeraj Chopra told ANI, “This brought back memories of the Asian Games, where Kishore and I both won medals. I’m really happy that Yashvir achieved his personal best at such a crucial moment. It feels great to be on the podium together. Hearing the national anthem is always a joy. Furthermore, I achieved a season’s best and my comeback is going well. There are more competitions ahead, so I’m very happy.”
