Guwahati. While flood waters are receding rapidly in Assam, the water level of rivers in Dhemaji and Sivasagar districts has once again been recorded above the danger mark.
Destruction is visible everywhere in Sivasagar district. Life still does not seem to be back on track in the four districts of Upper Assam, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat, which were most affected by the floods.
The worst condition is in Sivasagar district. Work is going on at the government and private levels to provide relief to the affected people. Despite this, people are not able to go to their homes. The flood has destroyed everything for them.
All the departments of the state government are coming forward to help the affected people at their respective levels. The Agriculture Department is planning to provide necessary resources to the farmers for alternative farming.
Because at present it is not possible to cultivate paddy. According to the data released by Assam State Disaster Management Authority on August 1, Dikhau River (Sivasagar) and Dhansiri River (Numligarh) are still flowing above the danger mark in the area. However, no death was reported from anywhere on Saturday. The total number of deaths in the state is 82.
At present, a total of seven districts are still badly affected by the floods, whereas, on Friday, the number of affected districts was five. The flood affected districts are Golaghat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Bajali, Dhemaji, Sonitpur and Jorhat.
A total of 349 villages in 20 revenue divisions of seven districts are affected by the floods. A total of 178837 population of the state is still affected and 15060 hectares of agricultural land is submerged in water.
The state government has still implemented a total of 61 camps, including 44 relief camps and 17 relief distribution centres, for the flood-affected people. 11489 people are taking shelter in relief camps.
While 5569 non-camp residents are receiving relief at relief distribution centres. SDRF, Army/Paramilitary Forces, NDRF, DDRF, Air Force, Police, Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), Circle Office/Local Administration, Civil Defence/trained volunteers and Fire Department are mobilized for relief and rescue operations.
The state government deployed a total of 79 medical teams in the affected areas on Saturday. During this period, three boats also remained engaged in relief work. The flood has caused extensive damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
