Mumbai/New Delhi: Marvel and Sony’s superhero film ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has shattered all previous box office earnings records at the Indian box office. This fourth solo film in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise has achieved the biggest and most explosive opening of any Hollywood release in India. With a historic opening day collection of ₹60.60 crore (net) in India, the film broke the years-old record of ‘Avengers: Endgame’. On the second day (Friday), the film collected ₹49.35 crore (net), taking its total past the ₹100 crore mark in the first two days.
Massive 35% jump on Day 3: ₹176 crore nett collection in 3 days
On Saturday, thanks to a strong turnout and word-of-mouth, the film saw an unprecedented surge in advance bookings and box office collections. The film recorded a 35% increase over its Saturday earnings, grossing ₹66.75 crore (net) in a single day. This brings the total three-day net collection in India to ₹176.70 crore (over ₹211 crore gross). Internationally, India contributed approximately $23 million (gross) to the film’s global earnings. Given the craze of Indian audiences, it is believed that the film will soon surpass Avengers: Endgame’s lifetime record of $61 million in India.
Surpasses Bollywood Khans and desi blockbusters
The meteoric opening day collections of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” have surpassed many major Bollywood blockbusters. While Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster “Pathan” earned ₹161 crore (net) in its first three days, Salman Khan’s biggest 3-day opener, “Tiger 3,” collected ₹144 crore. Even major releases like “Dhurandhar,” with ₹102 crore, lagged far behind Spider-Man’s storm.
‘Avengers: Endgame’ breaks records in North America and the global market
Released in India a day before the US (July 30), the film has also set new records globally. Even before its North American release, the film made history with a paid preview collection of $72 million, breaking the record held by “Avengers: Endgame.” It then earned over $95 million on Friday, bringing its opening day total to $167 million. This has set a new global record for the biggest opening for any film in Hollywood history.
