Jammu, August 1. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned Friday’s terrorist attack in Kellam village in Kulgam district. He announced compensation for the families of the victims.
Targeting the vulnerable is an inhumane act.
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, strongly condemned the brutal killing of two migrant laborers in the Devsar area of Kulgam. They said, “We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and pray that they find strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss. Targeting vulnerable people is a completely inhumane act that must be condemned in the strongest terms.”
The Chief Minister announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the families of the laborers killed in the terrorist attack. This amount will be in addition to the immediate assistance of Rs. 6 lakh each provided by the district administration. The Chief Minister expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and assured them that the government stands firmly with them in this difficult time.
Terrorists opened fire after asking for the identity of two brick kiln workers.
It is noteworthy that on Friday evening, terrorists asked for the identity of two brick kiln workers in Kellam village and opened fire at them at close range. Both seriously injured workers were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Anantnag city, where Deepak Ratre (24) succumbed to his injuries, while doctors referred the seriously injured Bopinder (28) to SKIMS for specialized treatment.
Officials said that Bopinder was transferred from the Government Medical College in Anantnag city late Friday evening in critical condition to the super-specialty Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Soura, Srinagar city. Bopinder died during treatment on Saturday morning.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha strongly condemned the cowardly act.
On Friday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha wrote on Twitter, “A laborer from Chhattisgarh has died in the barbaric terrorist attack in Kulgam. I spoke with DGP Nalin Prabhat and top security officials. I strongly condemn this cowardly act. I have directed security forces to intensify their operations and eliminate the terrorists. Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to bring the culprits to justice. Another injured laborer from Chhattisgarh was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. My deepest condolences go out to the bereaved families and I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The Jammu and Kashmir administration and the entire nation stand with these families.
