Kieron Pollard: Completed 1000 sixes in T20 cricket, Chris Gayle
West Indies’ experienced all-rounder Kieron Pollard has achieved another historic achievement in T20 cricket. Despite retiring from international cricket, Pollard is continuously playing in franchise leagues around the world and is showing his explosive batting prowess.
Sports News: West Indies’ experienced all-rounder Kieron Pollard has achieved another historic achievement in T20 cricket. While playing in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026, Pollard achieved a new milestone in world cricket by hitting the 1000th T20 six of his career. He has become only the second batsman in the history of T20 cricket to hit 1,000 or more sixes.
With this achievement, he now has his sights set on the world record of Chris Gayle, the player who has hit most sixes in T20 cricket. Cricket experts believe that if Pollard continues to play in various franchise leagues in the coming times, he can challenge this record.
Played explosive innings in Major League Cricket
MI New York faced Washington Freedom in the eliminator match of Major League Cricket. In this high-scoring match, Kieron Pollard demonstrated his aggressive batting brilliantly. He scored 64 runs in just 25 balls. During his innings, Pollard hit only one four, while hitting eight brilliant sixes.
With these eight sixes, he also touched the historic figure of 1,000 sixes in his T20 career. Pollard’s inning once again proved that despite retiring from international cricket, he is among the most dangerous T20 batsmen in the world.
Second player to hit 1000 sixes in T20 cricket
So far in the history of T20 cricket, only two batsmen have succeeded in hitting 1,000 or more sixes. At the top is former West Indies explosive opener Chris Gayle, who has 1,056 sixes in his name. Now Kieron Pollard has crossed the mark of 1,000 sixes and has secured second place in this special list.
However, there is a big difference in the number of matches between the two players. Chris Gayle had achieved this feat in approximately 463 T20 matches, whereas Pollard had to play 745 matches to reach this milestone. Yet by remaining active in franchise cricket for several consecutive years, Pollard has taken his long and successful T20 journey to new heights.
Away from international cricket, but continues to dominate T20 leagues
Kieron Pollard has retired from international cricket, but his popularity and utility in T20 leagues around the world still remains. He has performed brilliantly over the years in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), International League T20 (ILT20), Major League Cricket (MLC) and other franchise tournaments. His explosive batting, ability to play big shots and the art of finishing matches make him one of the most successful players in T20 cricket.
In this match, not only Pollard, but MI New York captain Nicholas Pooran also displayed stormy batting. Puran played an explosive inning of 106 runs in just 33 balls and played an important role in taking the team to a huge score. Thanks to the brilliant batting of Pooran and Pollard, MI New York scored 266 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, which is considered a very competitive score for any team in T20 cricket.
MI New York could not even save the huge goal
Despite making such a big score, MI New York had to face defeat. Washington Freedom, chasing the target of 267 runs, won the match by losing 4 wickets in just 18.4 overs. On behalf of the team, Steve Smith played a brilliant inning of 110 not out in 48 balls, while Andreas Gaus completely changed the course of the match by scoring 132 runs in 51 balls. MI New York’s bowlers looked helpless in front of the record partnership of both the batsmen and the team had to exit the tournament.
