Chinese car manufacturer Chery is planning its entry into the Indian market after tying up with Indian brand JSW. Earlier this year, JSW announced its intention to enter the Indian market as an independent car brand. The company is already testing a couple of models on Indian roads, and it appears to be planning an aggressive product strategy for the highly competitive market. Apart from the Jetour T2 and iCar V23, Chery has also filed design patents for three more vehicles in India.
Chery recently filed a design patent for the Lepas L4 EV in India. After the EV, the company has now registered the ICE version as well. The exterior design of the SUV looks more or less the same as the EV. The major difference is the front grille with the Lepas logo in the centre. The SUV comes with a chrome grille surround, split LED headlamps, LED DRLs, and an overall design that reminds many of the Porsche Cayenne or Macan.
It measures 4.4 metres in length and comes with a feature-loaded cabin. The SUV gets a large 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a small TFT driver display, a three-spoke steering wheel, a wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, and more. Internationally, the SUV is available with both a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The turbo-petrol version generates around 145 bhp and 255 Nm of torque.
Exeed is a premium luxury vehicle division owned by the Chinese automaker Chery. Chery recently filed a patent for the Exlantix ES7 GT in India. We recently spotted this electric station wagon from Exeed undergoing testing in India.
The ES7 is a range-extender electric vehicle (REEV), which means it uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine that acts as a generator to charge the 41 kWh battery pack. It has a claimed driving range of over 1,700 km. This premium REEV station wagon measures 4.9 metres in length and rides on 21-inch wheels. It comes loaded with premium features such as a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch passenger infotainment screen, leather upholstery, carbon-fibre inserts, ADAS, and more.
This is expected to be a premium offering, and it remains to be seen whether JSW is actually considering launching it in the Indian market.
Fulwin is another new-energy vehicle brand under Chery. The company has also filed a design patent for its X3L mid-size SUV. The SUV resembles a smaller version of the Jetour T2 or Land Rover Defender but has several distinctive styling elements of its own.
The Fulwin X3L gets a rugged exterior design with sleek LED headlamps and DRLs, flared wheel arches, a boxy silhouette, and more. The X3L is offered internationally only as a range-extender hybrid. It comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 33.7 kWh battery pack. The SUV is available in both 2WD and AWD configurations and generates a maximum output of 422 bhp and 505 Nm of torque.
Like most Chery vehicles, the Fulwin X3L comes with a long list of features, including leatherette upholstery, a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, memory parking, remote parking, automatic climate control, ADAS, and more.
