Chhattisgarh News: Official power consumption data for June and July 2026 in Raipur City Region has disproved many myths surrounding smart meters. According to government analysis, a decrease of about 32 percent in power consumption was recorded in the month of July. While the total power consumption in June was 131.27 million units (MU), it decreased to 89.38 million units in July. The government says that this change is not due to smart meters, but due to the impact of climate change, energy conservation and the half electricity bill scheme.
Consumers started keeping their electricity consumption within 400 units.
According to the data, a large number of consumers tried to keep their electricity consumption below 400 units so that they could avail the benefit of the state government’s half electricity bill scheme. In June, the number of consumers using electricity up to 400 units was 1 lakh 96 thousand 777, which increased to 2 lakh 56 thousand 471 in July. That is, an increase of 30.34 percent was registered in this category. At the same time, the number of consumers using electricity above 400 units decreased from 1 lakh 20 thousand 615 to 60 thousand 921, which is a decrease of almost 50 percent.
The number of people using more electricity also decreased
The government analysis also revealed that both the number of consumers and electricity consumption decreased across all high-power consumption categories. Consumers using more than 600 units of electricity decreased by 64.23 percent, while their total electricity consumption decreased by 38.13 percent. Similarly, consumers in the 401 to 600 unit category saw a 33.99 percent decrease in their total electricity consumption and a 32.58 percent decrease in their total electricity consumption.
The impact of weather and energy conservation was also visible
Experts believe that the use of air conditioners, coolers, and other power-hungry appliances has decreased since the summer season ended. Furthermore, people’s awareness of energy conservation has increased. This has clearly affected electricity consumption. According to the data, the number of consumers using 0 to 100 units of electricity has increased by 53.12 percent, and the number of consumers using 101 to 200 units has increased by 51.79 percent.
Government data dispels misconceptions about smart meters
Energy Department officials say that official data from the Raipur City Region clearly shows that electricity demand decreased in July and consumers controlled their power consumption. Available data suggests this change is primarily a result of weather conditions, energy conservation practices, and the state government’s public-friendly Half Electricity Bill Scheme. The government analysis also clarifies that the available data does not support the various misconceptions surrounding smart meters.
