Root’s heroics help England defeat India – Tezzbuzz
London, July 17:
Joe Root struck an unbeaten 99 as England cricket team defeated India national cricket team by four wickets in the second ODI to level the three-match series 1-1 in Cardiff.
Chasing 234, England reached 235 for 6 in 44.1 overs at Sophia Gardens, with Root anchoring the innings and guiding the hosts home with 20 balls to spare. The former England captain was left stranded on 99 not out, becoming the first England batter to finish an ODI innings unbeaten on that score.
Earlier, India were bowled out for 233 in 44 overs after England’s pace attack delivered a disciplined performance. Despite a fighting total, the visitors were unable to contain England’s chase, with Root holding the innings together under pressure.
With the win, England drew level in the series, setting up a decider in the third and final ODI.
