Digital Desk, New Delhi. Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will appear at a public event for the first time in nearly two years since leaving the country. She had maintained a distance from public forums and formal media interactions since her ouster in August 2024 following a student movement. She will now speak through a virtual event being held in New Delhi.
The event, organized by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia (FCC South Asia), will be held on August 5, 2026. The event, which will run from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, will be held at the Sir Mark Tully Auditorium on Mathura Road in New Delhi. The event will also be broadcast live on various social media platforms, allowing viewers around the world to watch.
Will present her side for the first time after two years
According to reports, Sheikh Hasina is expected to discuss her political future, the current situation, and the possibility of returning to Bangladesh at this event. This is expected to be her first major public address since leaving power, and will be closely watched regionally and internationally.
Left the country after the 2024 movement
The student movement that began on August 5, 2024, against the reservation (quota) system in Bangladesh quickly escalated into a widespread anti-government campaign. As the movement intensified, Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign as Prime Minister and, for security reasons, fled to India. Since then, she has maintained a near-total distance from public events and the media.

The FCC South Asia event is expected to be attended by several prominent Bangladeshi figures. Invited guests include Sheikh Hasina’s son and former ICT advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy, former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nofel, and Bangladesh Human Rights Watch Secretary General Mohammad Ali Siddiqui, along with a host of politicians, diplomats, and public figures.
