Famous Hollywood director Christopher Nolan’s much awaited film ‘The Odyssey’ has now been released in theatres. The level of craze for this film among the audience is so high that many people bought its tickets a year in advance. Such is the magic of Nolan’s film that audiences with tickets booked in 2025 got the opportunity to watch the film in 2026.

Audience’s curiosity in the premiere

The theater chain said most of the audience attending the premiere of ‘The Odyssey’ at TCL Chinese Theaters had booked their movie tickets a year in advance.

This enthusiasm was not limited to advance booking only. Fans were seen wearing bronze-coloured ancient Greek warrior helmets with high red crests and full face visors. These costumes reflected the mythological setting of the film and made the release a special event. A social media user also shared pictures of his tickets which he had purchased a year ago.


Story and cast of the film

‘The Odyssey’ is inspired by Homer’s classic Greek poem and is tipped to be one of the biggest releases of the year. Written and directed by Nolan, the film tells the story of Odysseus, who struggles to return home after the Trojan War.

Matt Damon plays Odysseus, while Tom Holland plays his son Telemachus. Robert Pattinson appears as Antinos. Anne Hathaway plays Penelope and Charlize Theron plays Calypso. The film also stars Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, John Leguizamo, Mia Goth, Samantha Morton and Zendaya.

In India, advance booking for the film, scheduled for release on 17 July, began on 8 June. Ticket prices ranged from Rs 150 for premium seats to Rs 3,400, reflecting the large scale of the film’s release. Recliner seats at INOX Megaplex in Pune were priced at Rs 3,400. Recliner tickets were available for Rs 3,100 at PVR ICON, Phoenix Palladium in Lower Parel, Mumbai. The ticket price for PVR IMAX with Laser, located at Priya in Delhi-NCR, was Rs 2,500.

In Bengaluru, tickets at Cinepolis Nexus Shantiniketan were priced at Rs 1,950, while tickets at INOX South City Mall were priced at Rs 1,240. At some places the shows started at 8.20 am and continued till 11.55 pm.

Potential success of the film

The film is expected to take a bigger opening than Nolan’s previous release ‘Oppenheimer’, which earned Rs 131.73 crore (net) during its theatrical release in India in 2023.

One media channel gave the film 4.5 stars. The review said, “Imagine turning a literary work more than 3,000 years old into a modern blockbuster. It sounds almost impossible, but Nolan pulls it off with great ease. At nearly three hours long, ‘The Odyssey’ never feels like a test of patience. Each chapter of Odysseus’s long journey home unfolds like a thrilling journey, combining grandeur and emotion, mythology and humanity, and The balance between massive action and deeply personal moments is truly immersive, as the world around you disappears into Nolan’s vision and you never lose sight of what’s happening off screen.
