IND vs ENG: Why did India lose in the second ODI against England? 5 reasons that sunk Team India’s Lutiya

New Delhi: In the second ODI against England, the Indian team had to face defeat by 4 wickets. Batting first, India set a target of 234 runs, which England achieved by losing 6 wickets in 44.1 overs. At one time, India had reduced England to 125 runs by 5 wickets, but despite this the victory slipped away. Let us know the five big reasons for this defeat.

1. Slow innings of Rohit Sharma

The start of the Indian innings was not as expected. Experienced batsman Rohit Sharma scored only 26 runs in 47 balls. His slow batting affected the team’s run rate and India failed to make a fast start. The aggressive style for which Rohit is known was not seen in this match.

2. Batting disintegrated as soon as Virat Kohli was out

After the early dismissal of Rohit, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer took over the innings. Both of them put the team in a strong position by scoring half-centuries. But as soon as Virat was out in the 32nd over, the Indian batting completely faltered and the team could not get out of the pressure.

3. Last 7 wickets fell within 55 runs

India’s score at one time was 178/3, but after that the team lost its last seven wickets by adding only 55 runs. Batsmen like Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dubey could not play big innings. In the end, Jasprit Bumrah’s unbeaten inning of 20 runs somehow took the team to 233 runs.

4. Lack of finisher proved costly

India clearly missed the absence of Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. There was no batsman seen in the middle order and lower order who could stay till the end and take the team to a big score. Shivam Dubey got a chance, but he was out on the very first ball.

5. Indian bowlers looked helpless in front of Joe Root.

While defending the target of 234 runs, the Indian bowlers made a good start and reduced England’s five wickets to 125 runs. Despite this the team failed to stop Joe Root. Root played a brilliant unbeaten inning of 99 runs and made important partnerships with the lower order batsmen to help England win. His innings completely dashed India’s hopes of victory.

This defeat of India exposed the weaknesses of both the batting and finishing departments. Now the team’s eyes will be on the third ODI to be held at Lord’s.
