Car companies in India are now finding their way amid stringent regulations to save pollution and fuel. The new proposal of the government, which we are knowing as CAFE-III rules, has brought a big relief for car manufacturers. Earlier companies had to depend only on electric or hybrid vehicles to meet the mileage and pollution targets, but now the government has found a smart way. Under the new proposal, if car companies install modern fuel-saving technologies in their vehicles, they will be given benefits like ‘carbon credit’ from the government.

Modern features will be seen even in ordinary cars

This draft prepared by the Ministry of Energy includes those technologies which actually help in reducing the expenditure of petrol and diesel of the vehicle. These include features like automatic start-stop system, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), regenerative braking, 6-speed gearbox, improved alternator, advanced LED lighting and solar reflective paint. By now you must have seen that these features are often found only in expensive or premium cars. But after the implementation of the new rules, companies will be motivated to offer these in their small and mid-range cars as well, as this will make it easier for them to meet the government target of reducing pollution.

According to the draft, if a company adds any technology to its vehicle that saves fuel, it will be given relief of up to 1 gram per kilometer in carbon emissions. It is a ‘win-win’ situation for the companies. On one hand, they will not have to invest heavily in making electric vehicles only to meet their goals, while on the other hand, they will be able to offer these fuel-saving features in more and more models. This will give companies the option to improve their lineup beyond hybrids and EVs.
