Fatty liver is one of the most rapidly growing health problems today. Poor eating habits, lack of physical activity, obesity, and an unhealthy lifestyle are considered the main causes. However, this problem can be largely controlled by adopting a healthy lifestyle and making necessary dietary changes in time. Dr. Bimal Chhajer, MD, MBBS, founder of Saoul Heart Center, explained in his YouTube video that for fatty liver patients, it is crucial not only to take medications but also to adopt some good daily habits. Let’s learn some important tips from the doctor that can help keep the liver healthy.
Change these habits to control fatty liver
Lose weight: If you have fatty liver, first focus on losing weight. Excess weight causes excess fat to accumulate in the liver cells, which can lead to inflammation and serious damage. In such a situation, even a 5-10% reduction in body weight can help reduce fat deposits in the liver and reduce inflammation. To lose weight, adopt a balanced diet and regular exercise.
Avoid sugary foods: Limit your intake of soft drinks, packaged juices, sweets, cakes, cookies, and refined carbohydrates. Excess sugar and fructose can accelerate the accumulation of fat in the liver.
Get physically active: Engage in brisk walking, cycling, swimming, or other exercise for at least 30–45 minutes daily. At least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity per week can help control fatty liver.
Include these in your diet: Include green leafy vegetables, whole grains, pulses, fruits, nuts, seeds, omega-3-rich foods (such as flaxseeds and walnuts), and adequate protein. Also, limit your intake of fried and processed foods and drink plenty of water.
