Lucknow Super Giants New Captain: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) entered the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022. Owned by Indian industrialist Sanjiv Goenka, Lucknow participated in IPL 2022 for the first time. KL Rahul was given the opportunity to captain the team. Shortly after the conclusion of IPL 2026, the Lucknow Super Giants removed Rishabh Pant from the captaincy. They announced their removal through a social media post. Shortly after, the Lucknow Super Giants traded Rishabh Pant to the Delhi Capitals. Delhi traded Kuldeep Yadav to the Lucknow Super Giants and took Rishabh Pant back from them.
The question has once again arisen: who will captain the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2027? Who will lead the team after KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant? This question remains among Lucknow cricket fans. Three names are now emerging as potential candidates for Lucknow’s next captain. One of these three names is leading the race.
1 – Aiden Markram
South African captain and star right-handed batsman Aiden Markram could become the new captain of the Lucknow Super Giants. Markram’s name is emerging as a frontrunner in the race to become the RPSG captain. He has performed exceptionally well for the team so far, scoring runs with the bat. He is considered the backbone of Lucknow’s batting order. Now, Rishabh Pant’s position is vacant, so he could be given the captaincy. He has captained South Africa as well as Hyderabad in the IPL. He is also experienced in captaincy in the South African T20 League. He also captains other franchises in the RPSG group. Markram has scored 1671 runs in 66 innings of 69 IPL matches, with 10 half-centuries.
2 – Mitchell Marsh
Mitchell Marsh is also in the running to become the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants. If L&S doesn’t appoint Aiden Markram as captain, Mitchell Marsh will be the strongest contender for the captaincy. Marsh has captained Australia in ODI and T20 formats. He has also captained in several other cricket leagues. He has also played several important innings with the bat for the Lucknow Super Giants. Marsh has scored 1855 runs in 62 innings across 68 matches, with two centuries and 12 half-centuries.
3 – Nicholas Pooran
The third and final contender for the Lucknow captaincy is Nicholas Pooran. He has also captained the Lucknow Super Giants for the first time. He has led the team in the IPL in the absence of KL Rahul. He has also served as the vice-captain. Pooran also has experience captaining in various T20 leagues around the world. Puran has scored 2527 runs in 101 innings of 104 matches with 15 half-centuries.
