President Droupadi Murmu Europe Visit: President of India Draupadi Murmu will pay a state visit to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania from 19 to 25 July 2026. The purpose of this tour is to strengthen India’s political, economic, trade and technological relations with these European countries. This information was given by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
Randhir Jaiswal spoke in a special press briefing on the programs to be held during President Draupadi Murmu’s visit to European countries. During this, Secretary (West) Sibi George, Press Secretary to the President Dr. Manisha Verma and Joint Secretary for Southern Europe Region in the Ministry of External Affairs Alpana Dubey were also present.
President will visit three countries
Sibi George said that the state visit of President Draupadi Murmu to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania from 19 to 25 July 2026 is being held on the invitation of the Presidents of the three countries. He said that this visit is very important historically, because for the first time a bilateral visit of an Indian President to Moldova and North Macedonia is taking place. Whereas, if we talk about Romania, this will be the first state visit of an Indian President in more than 30 years. Earlier such a journey had taken place in 1994.
George said that the visit to these three countries shows that India is now continuously focusing on strengthening its relations with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Additionally, it is an important step towards furthering India’s comprehensive partnership with Europe and the European Union. The tour was aimed at greenlighting India’s relations with Europe and the three ‘Ts’ This will prove to be an important step towards increasing cooperation in the fields of trade, technology and tourism.
First visit of an Indian President to Moldova
Secretary (West) said that this will be the first visit of an Indian President to Moldova after the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Moldova. Moldova opened its embassy in New Delhi in 2023. Therefore, this visit is quite important historically and politically and shows that India is continuously strengthening its relations with Eastern Europe.
During this visit, President Murmu will hold bilateral and delegation level talks with the President of Moldova. The President of Moldova will also host a dinner in his honour. He told that President Murmu will meet the Prime Minister of Moldova and the Speaker of the Parliament. She will also meet the members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group there. Apart from this, she will interact with business representatives and people from the Indian community. President Murmu will also address a business forum with the President of Moldova.
Strengthening relations between the two countries
He said that this visit will provide an opportunity to thoroughly review the relations between the two countries and enhance cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, digital technology, innovation, renewable energy, health, education, agriculture, culture and connectivity. Its objective is to pursue a comprehensive partnership and not be limited to just political relations.
Macedonia’s trip will be historic
Describing President Murmu’s visit to North Macedonia, Sibi George said that this visit will also be historic, because it is the first bilateral visit of an Indian President to that country. On behalf of North Macedonia, the Prime Minister had come to India in 2012 and again in January 2015 to attend the Vibrant Gujarat Summit held in Gandhinagar. During this time he also met our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. North Macedonia opened its embassy in New Delhi in 2008.

President Shankar Dayal Sharma went to Romania 30 years ago
Giving information about President Murmu’s state visit to Romania, Sibi George said that the visit to Romania will be a presidential level visit after almost three decades. Earlier in 1994, the then President of India Shankar Dayal Sharma had visited Romania. Before that, President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and President VV Giri had also visited Bucharest.
He said that during this visit the President will hold bilateral and delegation level talks with the President of Romania. The President of Romania will also host a dinner in his honour. The President will meet the Prime Minister of Romania, the President of the Senate and the President of the Chamber of Deputies. During this, President Murmu will address a business forum with the President of Romania and will also interact with business representatives and people of the Indian community.

India’s friendly relations with Romania
He said that India and Romania have long-standing friendly relations, which are based on mutual respect, democratic values and regular cooperation in international forums. Political contacts between the two countries remain constant. Romania also provided significant assistance in the evacuation of Indian students during the Ukraine crisis. Trade between the two countries is continuously growing and is expected to reach approximately US$1.3 billion by 2025. Economic relations are also increasing rapidly. Indian companies are active in sectors such as IT, automobile parts, steel, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy and manufacturing.
