New Delhi, 18 July. India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a warning of heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning in 15 states of the country. According to the Meteorological Department, due to intensification of monsoon activities, winds can blow at a speed of up to 70 kilometers per hour along with heavy rains in many states.
Possibility of heavy rain in many states including UP-Bihar
According to IMD, many states including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar may see a period of strong winds, thunderstorms and heavy rains. There is a possibility of damage to trees, electric poles and standing crops due to strong winds, while there is a danger of lightning in many areas. The Meteorological Department has appealed to people to stay indoors during bad weather, not take shelter under trees and avoid unnecessary travel. Also, it has been advised to remain alert in view of the possibility of transport and power supply being affected.
Orange alert in Himachal Pradesh till July 23
The Shimla-based weather center has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in many districts of Himachal Pradesh between July 19 and 23. According to the Meteorological Department, a new Western Disturbance along with the South-West Monsoon is likely to cause widespread rainfall across the state. Meteorological Center Director Shobhit Katiyar said that yellow alert has been issued in Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla and Sirmaur districts on Saturday. He has appealed to the local people and tourists to take special precautions in areas prone to landslides and flash floods.
Danger of flash floods and landslides in Jammu and Kashmir also
IMD has also issued a warning of heavy rain for Jammu and Kashmir and has expressed the possibility of flash flood, landslides and waterlogging in low-lying areas in the next few days. The department has advised to exercise special vigilance on Saturday night, Sunday morning and between July 20 and 22.
Advice to stay away from rivers and waterfalls
The Meteorological Department has appealed to people to avoid going near rivers, streams and waterfalls, travel with caution on hilly roads and follow the instructions of the local administration. Also, disaster management agencies have been put on high alert to deal with any emergency.
