Supreme Court ordered the Railways
Supreme Court: The Supreme Court has recently issued an important order related to railway passengers. You must have noticed at some time or the other that there are three types of AC coaches in the train – First Class, Second Class and Third Class AC. Apart from this, sleeper and general compartments are separate. Economically strong passengers travel in high class coaches, while poor and economically weak people travel in general coaches. People often call the passengers sitting in these coaches with words like ‘second class people’. Now the Supreme Court has taken a big step by showing strictness regarding this terminology.
It is wrong to say ‘second class passenger’ – Supreme Court
During a hearing held on Friday, the Supreme Court said that the class of a passenger is not decided by his money and expenses. Words like ‘second class passenger’ are often used in railway rules. Objecting to this word, the court said that ‘second class’ should be related to the coach and not to the passenger.
Supreme Court ordered to give compensation
Apart from this, during the hearing itself, the Supreme Court also overturned a decision of Madhya Pradesh High Court and Railway Claims Tribunal. A few years ago, a resident of Madhya Pradesh met with an accident after being hit by a train, after which the MP High Court and Railway Claims Tribunal refused to give compensation to the family. Now, while hearing this, the court has ordered to give Rs 8 lakh as compensation to the family of the deceased. The Supreme Court has clearly said that the family of the deceased passenger cannot be deprived of compensation merely because he did not have a ticket.
