Chennamma, wife of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, is no more, breathed her last at the age of 85
New Delhi: Chennamma, wife of former Chief Minister of Karnataka and former Prime Minister of the country HD Deve Gowda, died on Saturday at the age of 85. According to the information, she was unwell for the last few days and was undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru. After increasing difficulty in breathing, he was admitted to the ICU of the hospital on July 15, where his treatment was continuing under the supervision of specialist doctors. However today at 4 pm he suffered a massive cardiac arrest and despite all efforts his health could not improve and he died.

As soon as the news of Chennamma’s demise came out, there was a wave of mourning in the political and social world. Family members, close relatives, Janata Dal (Secular) leaders and a large number of workers have started reaching the hospital to pay their last respects. In view of the crowd, security arrangements were also tightened around the hospital premises. Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh himself reached the spot and took stock of the security arrangements.
When and where was he born
Chennamma, a resident of Hirehalli village in Hassan district, was married to HD Deve Gowda on 25 May 1954. Both of them fulfilled the responsibilities of family and public life together during their long married life. He has six children, which include HD Kumaraswamy, HD Revanna, HD Balakrishna, HD Ramesh Gowda, Shailaja and Anusuya.
Took full responsibility of the family
Chennamma has always been Deve Gowda’s strong support throughout his long political journey. It is said that when Deve Gowda was busy in public life and politics, Chennamma took the entire responsibility of the family. He took care of the upbringing of the children, their education and the household arrangements with complete dedication. Family members remember her as a woman with simplicity, calm nature and strong personality.
Difficult period came in life in 2001
A difficult phase in Chennamma’s life also came in February 2001, when she was attacked with acid while returning from a temple in Hardanahalli. She was seriously injured in this attack, but recovered after long treatment. Despite adverse circumstances, he maintained the morale of his family and always faced life with strength. Now due to his demise, there is an atmosphere of mourning in the Deve Gowda family as well as in Karnataka politics.
