According to Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno, via CalcioMercato the idea of a return to Serie A for the veteran striker has gathered pace in recent hours.
Cavani, a free agent at 39 after ending his spell with Boca Juniors in Argentina, represents one of the more eye-catching opportunities available at no cost this summer, and Lecce are weighing whether they can turn the dream into reality.

The Salento club are reported to have held initial exploratory contacts with the forward’s entourage to assess the technical and financial feasibility of a deal, examining the full picture of wages and commissions involved.
As things stand, there is no concrete negotiation, but Lecce are gathering the information they need to decide whether, and how, to make their move.
The obvious sticking point is money. Cavani’s salary demands, to say nothing of his willingness to test himself in Serie A again, could prove too steep for Lecce’s budget, and any deal would require a genuine sacrifice from the club. Still, the very fact that contacts have opened marks the first tentative step.
For Lecce, the appeal is clear. A former Napoli great who terrorised Serie A defences during his three seasons in Naples, Cavani would be a statement addition and a marquee name to build around after another hard-fought survival. Whether the dream can survive contact with the finances is another matter entirely.
