New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal said he will march with 100 people to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on Tuesday and submit a memorandum against E20 fuel, alleging that the central government is promoting it under pressure from US President Donald Trump.
Kejriwal alleged that India had capitulated to Trump to buy ethanol from the US. He said the government’s continued promotion of ethanol-blended petrol indicated a hidden agenda.
Kejriwal said, “I will go to the Prime Minister’s residence tomorrow with 100 people to personally submit petitions signed by the public and discuss the issues related to ethanol-blended petrol. People are facing many problems with their vehicles. Despite this, the government is continuing with it, which means there is a hidden agenda behind it.”
He said, “People are saying that Prime Minister Modi is under pressure from Trump to buy ethanol from the US.” Kejriwal said that last month he sent a letter to the Prime Minister requesting time to discuss concerns about E20 petrol, but after receiving no response, he will now submit the memorandum to the Prime Minister himself.
In his letter, Kejriwal demanded that both pure petrol and E20 fuel options be made available at petrol pumps. He also demanded a reduction in the price of ethanol-blended petrol.
“We haven’t received a response to our letter, so now we will submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister ourselves. We launched a signature campaign against ethanol-blended petrol. More than 200,000 people have signed this memorandum,” he said.
