DM strict regarding dengue and disaster in Dehradun, action will be taken directly under Epidemic Act on negligence
Dehradun. With the arrival of monsoon in Uttarakhand, the threat of natural disasters and seasonal diseases has started looming. In view of this, the district administration of Dehradun has geared up. In view of waterlogging, piles of garbage and increasing threat of dengue-malaria in the capital Dehradun, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan has taken a very strict stance. He has given a clear warning that negligence of any department will not be tolerated in this sensitive time of monsoon. The DM has clearly instructed all government and private schools that students should come to school wearing full sleeve clothes only. If any school ignores this rule, action will be taken against it by directly filing a case under the Epidemic Act.
In fact, the problem of waterlogging and breeding of mosquitoes becomes common during monsoon. Keeping this in mind, the District Magistrate held a very important virtual meeting with the officials of related departments in the Collectorate Auditorium. In this meeting, he closely reviewed the preparations for disaster management, sanitation and dengue control. The DM bluntly said that all departments should come on alert mode and monitor their respective areas daily.
Instructions to deploy GPS equipped JCB in low-line areas
The administration has already started preparations to deal with floods and waterlogging in the plains after heavy rains in the hilly areas. The District Magistrate has directed that JCB machines equipped with GPS should already be deployed in all the low-line areas situated on the banks of the river. The benefit of this will be that in case of emergency, relief and rescue work can be started immediately without wasting time. Along with this, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) has been instructed that the entire stock of ambulances and essential medicines should be ready round the clock at all the Disaster Operation Centers (DOC). The Forest Department has also been alerted and asked to strengthen the information system in inaccessible and hilly areas so that news of any disaster can reach the control room immediately.
Strict rules for schools, dengue larvae survey will be done from door to door
This time the administration does not want to take any risk regarding dengue prevention in Dehradun. The District Magistrate has instructed the Municipal Corporation and all the municipal bodies to identify the sensitive areas and get fogging and anti-larva spraying done there on a war footing. For this, if there is a need to purchase more fogging machines, then they should be purchased immediately. Instructions have been given to the Health Department to conduct door-to-door surveys with the help of Asha workers. During this survey, not only will dengue larvae be tested in rooftops and coolers, but patients suffering from fever will be identified and provided immediate treatment.
The Chief Education Officer has been given the responsibility to inspect every school in collaboration with the municipal bodies and issue a certificate that the school premises are completely safe and there is no waterlogging or filth anywhere there.
Officials will measure if they see heaps of garbage
DM Dr. Ashish Chauhan has also taken a tough stance regarding the cleanliness system in the city. He has instructed all the Deputy District Magistrates (SDM) of the district to enter the field. Officials have been asked to identify new garbage points that have suddenly formed in their respective areas and immediately launch cleanliness drives in collaboration with the civic body. The District Magistrate has warned in clear words that if garbage is found piled up in any area, the concerned SDM and municipal officials will be directly responsible for it and strict action will be taken against them.
In this important review meeting, Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue) K.K. Mishra and District Disaster Management Officer Rishabh Kumar and officials of PWD and Irrigation Department were present. At the same time, all the Deputy District Magistrates of the district and officers of Municipal Corporation and Municipal Bodies remained connected through video conferencing.
