New Delhi. Mamata Banerjee has faced several setbacks since her defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections. First, several of her MLAs abandoned her and rebelled, forming a separate faction within the TMC. Several MPs have also rebelled and left her. Now, Chandra Kumar Bose has also announced his decision to leave Mamata Banerjee’s party. Chandra Kumar Bose, the great-grandson of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has resigned from the TMC, citing personal reasons. Bose had joined the TMC in April 2026, before the Assembly elections.

Now, in just about four months, he has become disillusioned with the TMC. Before joining the TMC, Chandra Kumar Bose was in the BJP. He has released his resignation letter on social media, in which he has written that due to personal reasons, he is resigning from the primary membership of the All India Trinamool Congress with immediate effect. However, no statement has been issued by the Trinamool Congress regarding his resignation. Chandra Kumar is the grandson of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s elder brother Sarat Chandra Bose and son of Amiya Nath Bose. Before joining politics, he worked for a long time in marketing and management related positions in Tata Steel.

He has repeatedly demanded the declassification of secret files related to the Azad Hind Fauj and Netaji. The BJP fielded Chandra Kumar Bose from the Kolkata South constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, though he lost. Prior to that, he contested the 2016 assembly elections on a BJP ticket from Bhawanipur against Mamata Banerjee. She defeated him by a margin of over 25,000 votes.
