The easiest way to use liquid foundation is to soak a makeup blending sponge in water and squeeze out the excess water. Dab the sponge into the foundation and then dab it onto your skin. That’s it, the foundation will spread evenly in no time. Your skin will look incredibly smooth.
But these days, acne is often popping up all over your face, causing constant pain. It doesn’t seem to be getting any better. But you don’t even think about the sponge. You assume that the dust and smoke outside is responsible for it.
Did you know that wet sponges can cause various skin diseases! Because if these sponges are not cleaned and dried properly, bacteria and fungi can grow on them. Just think, we may be unknowingly rubbing such a bacteria’s nest on our face day after day!
Sponges have numerous fine pores inside them, where water, makeup, skin oil, and dead cells get trapped. Often, we leave the sponge wet in a hurry after finishing our makeup. And this moisture can cause all sorts of problems. Acne, redness, irritation, or inflammation can occur on the skin.
If such a problem occurs, what should you do?
First of all, stop using the sponge. Keep your face clean with a mild face wash and do not try to scratch the affected area or pop the pimple at all. If the problem does not subside within a few days, or if symptoms such as pus, severe pain, swelling or fever appear, you should immediately consult a dermatologist.
How to keep your makeup sponge clean to avoid such dangers?
Every time you apply makeup, you should clean the sponge with soapy water or a sponge cleanser. Before you start applying makeup, soak the sponge in a bowl of warm water and soap or cleanser. After applying makeup, soak the sponge in it for a while. You can safely go out and attend the event for which you are so dressed up!
Come back and pick up the soaked sponge. Squeeze it with your hands to get as much water out as possible. Place the bowl on a dry tissue paper and place the sponge in a fan or AC to dry it. Only when it is completely dry, put it in the make-up box.
Even if you don’t have acne on your skin, if the sponge shows signs of odor, stains, or tearing, replace it immediately. If you clean it regularly and store it properly, you can use the same sponge for a long time.
