Tezzbuzz Desk- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on the Congress and opposition parties over paper leaks and alleged irregularities in recruitment exams. BJP MP Sambit Patra, while addressing a press conference on Tuesday, alleged that the Congress and the opposition are adopting a double standard in the paper leak cases. He questioned why the Congress and Rahul Gandhi are silent on the issue when students in Karnataka and Jharkhand are protesting over alleged irregularities in the exams.
Sambit Patra said that the opposition only raises issues where it sees political advantage. He alleged that a large number of students in Jharkhand are raising their voices through social media and protests, but the Congress party is not speaking out in their support.
‘Why the double standards of Congress?’
Sambit Patra, while targeting the Congress party in a press conference, said that the party’s stance on serious issues like paper leaks varies depending on the state. He said that students in Jharkhand have been raising their voices against alleged irregularities in examinations, but the Congress party is neither coming out in support of them nor raising the issue prominently in Parliament.
The BJP MP, calling it “selective outrage” by the Congress party, alleged that the opposition was exploiting the paper leak issue for political gain. He questioned Rahul Gandhi as to why he wasn’t protesting when questions were being raised about the exams in states ruled by Congress or its allies.
Attack on the monsoon session of Parliament
Sambit Patra also targeted the Congress and the Indian Alliance over the ongoing deadlock in the monsoon session of Parliament. He said that crores of rupees are spent on conducting a single session of Parliament, but the functioning of the House is being affected in the current session.
Patra alleged that the Question Hour had not been running smoothly since the House began, and that discussions on several bills had been affected. He blamed the behavior of the Congress and some parties in the India Alliance for this.
BJP attacks Priyank Kharge’s statement
Sambit Patra also questioned the Congress party regarding the alleged paper leak related to the police constable recruitment exam in Karnataka. He cited a controversial comment by Karnataka government minister Priyank Kharge and questioned Rahul Gandhi’s silence.
Patra claimed that when Priyank Kharge was asked about accountability and resignation of ministers in the context of students protesting against alleged irregularities in the recruitment exam, he allegedly made comments about the hunger strike and lathicharge by the students.
This statement sparked controversy. The BJP called it insensitive toward students and demanded an explanation from the Congress leadership. Sambit Patra said that Rahul Gandhi has remained silent on the matter.
What was Priyank Kharge’s statement?
Minister Priyank Kharge’s comments have gained traction amid student protests in Karnataka over alleged irregularities in state police recruitment exams. When asked if any minister would resign taking responsibility for the alleged irregularities, Kharge reportedly said that the protesters should be allowed to go on a hunger strike for 25 days, and if they don’t stop, he would consider resigning after a lathi charge. Following this comment, the opposition has intensified its attack on the Congress government in Karnataka.
CID questions former JPSC chairman
Controversy continues in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in recruitment and competitive examinations. Former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Chairman L. Khiangte was questioned by CID officials for nearly seven hours on Monday. This is reported to be his fourth round of questioning.
He was previously questioned for about nine hours on July 28, and for about eight hours each on July 29 and 31. Khiangte resigned as JPSC chairman on July 22. He was appointed JPSC chairman in February last year after retiring as the state’s chief secretary.
Indefinite strike by students in Ranchi
Student protests continue in Ranchi over alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations. Protesters have been staging an indefinite sit-in at a stadium since July 29th. Student leader Devendranath Mahato has launched an indefinite hunger strike. The protesters are demanding that the CBI, rather than the CID, investigate the alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations. They demand an impartial investigation and action against the culprits.
Based on these developments, the BJP has accused the Congress and the opposition of adopting double standards. Now, the issue of paper leaks and alleged irregularities in recruitment exams is becoming a major topic of student protests as well as political accusations and counter-accusations.
