Dhaka: Bangladesh’s interim government has requested India not to allow former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina or leaders associated with her Awami League party to use Indian soil for political activities or public addresses that Dhaka considers interference in its internal affairs or fueling political instability. The request comes amid reports that Sheikh Hasina will address a virtual event on August 5.
Seeking cooperation from India
According to media reports, Bangladesh has asked India to ensure that Sheikh Hasina, who is in exile, does not use Indian soil for making political speeches or for activities that affect the internal situation of Bangladesh.
The report said that India has assured to consider the request, although there has been no official public statement from New Delhi in this regard.
Virtual address is proposed on August 5
According to the report, Sheikh Hasina, who has been living in India since her ouster from power in August 2024, may address a virtual event from the Sir Mark Tully Auditorium in New Delhi on August 5.
It is being told that this program is being organized by the South Asia Foreign Correspondents Club , in which Hasina can also be asked questions about her political future and the possibility of returning to Bangladesh.
The issue was raised in the India-Bangladesh meeting
According to reports, the issue was raised during a meeting in Dhaka on Monday between Humayun Kabir, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs , and the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, where bilateral relations were discussed.
In the meeting, Bangladesh urged India to ensure that its soil is not used for any political message or activity that increases instability in Bangladesh or affects relations between the two countries.

According to the report, the Bangladeshi side stated that efforts have been made to improve relations between the two countries in recent months and that any such developments could undermine this positive atmosphere. Therefore, India’s cooperation was expected in this matter.
