Following the blocking of accounts, Meta has indirectly hinted that it may be monitoring the content sharing activities of Indian users on the messaging platform. Users shared screenshots on other social media platforms, including X, stating that their existing accounts were suddenly placed under review process and services were suspended for 24 hours. Clarifying on Tuesday, Meta said it was testing its new feature in India and had no other ulterior motive.

What is written in the warning message?
WhatsApp users began seeing a message, screenshots of which were shared on social media. The message stated that the account was under review and dated August 3, 2026. “Your account activity and device information are being reviewed to determine if they comply with the company’s rules,” it said. Users will receive a response within 24 hours.
Increased problems for users
After her account was blocked, a WhatsApp user wrote to the company on the platform to express her concerns. Her WhatsApp account was suddenly suspended. She also explained that she only uses the official app and that her work is completely dependent on WhatsApp.
Why is age verification test being conducted?
WhatsApp, a division of Meta, clarified that it is testing new methods to verify users’ age in India. This step is being taken in preparation for compliance with upcoming laws, including provisions related to the Digital Personal Information Protection Act. However, the company said that this testing is optional.
