New Delhi: Team India has strengthened its preparations for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka by adding four promising domestic spinners as net bowlers. Harsh Dubey, Vipraj Nigam, Tanush Kotian and Shivang Kumar have joined the squad ahead of the two-match Test series, which begins in Galle on August 15.
Young domestic stars earn recognition
The four bowlers have impressed in domestic cricket and will now assist the Indian batters during training sessions in Sri Lanka. Although they are not part of the official Test squad, their inclusion is viewed as an opportunity to gain valuable exposure by working alongside the national team.
The quartet offers a variety of spin options, helping the batting unit prepare for Sri Lanka’s spin-friendly conditions. Their role will be to simulate match situations and provide quality practice ahead of the crucial series.
India focus on spin preparation
With Sri Lankan pitches traditionally offering significant assistance to spinners, the Indian team management has prioritised specialised net sessions. The additional bowlers are expected to help players fine-tune their techniques against different styles of spin before the opening Test.
The preparations also come at a time when India is adjusting its plans following the absence of key pacer Jasprit Bumrah, making the spin department an important area of focus for the visitors.
