This illegal content kept in the phone can send you to jail, Delhi Police arrested 10 people

Google CSAM Detection: Nowadays, smartphone has become an important part of everyone’s life, but not every data saved in it is safe. Let us tell you that some types of content can create serious legal problems for you. In view of this, a similar case has come to light from Delhi where Delhi Police has arrested 10 people. Information has come to light that these people are accused of storing illegal content related to sexual exploitation of children (CSAM) on their phones and online accounts and it was being shared further. Police said that this entire matter was revealed after the information received from Google’s detection system. After this, the accused were arrested in a special operation that lasted for five days.

How does Google get to know about such content?

It is being told that Google uses hash matching and artificial intelligence technology to identify Child Sexual Abuse Material on its services. Talking about hash matching, it is a tool in which a unique digital fingerprint of a photo or video is created. When a file is uploaded to Google’s servers, the system compares its hash with the already existing CSAM database.

If the hash of both matches, the system recognizes it without even opening the file and immediately generates an alert. At the same time, if any new or edited illegal content is found, then AI identifies it with the help of its pattern.

How does information reach the police from Google?

In such a case, when Google’s system detects such objectionable content, it removes the related content and sends its report to the US-based National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). This report contains important account related information and other technical details. After this NCMEC sends information to the law enforcement agencies of the concerned country on the basis of which investigation and action is taken.

Keeping such content is also a crime

Let us tell you that in India, downloading obscene or exploitative content related to children, storing it on phone or cloud or sharing it through any medium is a legal offense. Police say that the accused arrested in this case had downloaded, stored and disseminated such content using cloud storage, social media platforms and mobile apps. If found guilty in such cases, strict legal action can be taken under the IT Act and POCSO Act. Therefore, avoid keeping any suspicious or illegal content on your phone or online account and use the internet responsibly.
