JD Vance and Usha Vance said in a joint statement released on social media that their son has been named Alec Neil Vance. He wrote that both the mother and the newborn are healthy and other children in the family are also very excited with the arrival of their younger brother.

History repeated after 156 years

According to American history, the first child born to a serving Vice President was in the year 1870. At that time, a son was born to the then Vice President Skylar Colfax and his wife Ellen Wade Colfax. Earlier in 1829, during the tenure of Vice President John C. Calhoon, his son William was born.

In this sequence, JD Vance has now become the third Vice President in American history during whose tenure a child was born in his home.

In their message, the Vance couple gave special thanks to the doctors, nursing staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the White House medical team. He said that due to everyone’s care and cooperation, both mother and child are completely healthy.

Usha Vance has a deep connection with India

America’s Second Lady Usha Vance has family ties to Andhra Pradesh, India. His parents immigrated to America from India in the 1980s. Usha was born in 1986 in San Diego, California. His father is a mechanical engineer and mother a biologist.

Usha and JD Vance met while studying at Yale Law School. The friendship that started during an academic project later turned into a relationship and the couple got married in 2014. JD Vance has also mentioned the cooperation and contribution of Usha Vance in his famous book ‘Hillbilly Elegy’.
