Parliament march, lathi charge and meeting with Nadda: Why was the government forced to bow before CJP?

After nearly three weeks of fierce protests at Jantar Mantar and the long fast unto death of famous social activist Sonam Wangchuk, the central government finally initiated talks with the representatives of the protesters. Due to this movement led by Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and Sonam Wangchuk, the political temperature reached sky high on Monday. CJP representatives met Union Minister J.P. Met Nadda and handed him a demand letter and placed his main conditions before him. However, regarding the government’s stance, it has been made clear that the matter has definitely been heard, but till now no concrete assurance or commitment has been given regarding the demands.

Why did the government have to talk to the protesters?

According to Bharatiya Janata Party insiders, the government decided to meet the protesting students and representatives because the situation arising on the very first day of the monsoon session of Parliament had created an environment of ‘bad optics’ for the government. Speaking openly on this, a senior party leader said that the government did not at any cost want to appear insensitive or careless towards the students protesting in front of the country.

This was the reason why after there was a huge uproar near the Parliament and the situation became tense, the government called the delegation for talks. However, the government also claims that the ‘real students’ have now ended their protest and returned to their classes and the NEET-UG results were declared last week itself. The ministers also believe that those who are still present at the protest site want to politicize this sensitive issue and are trying to gain power.

Political drama remained at its peak in the capital Delhi throughout the day on Monday. On one hand, Union Minister J.P. Nadda met CJP spokesperson Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, while on the other hand, the security forces had to use heavy lathi charge and tear gas shells to stop the angry protesters from reaching the Parliament House. Many protesters had reached just a few meters away from the Parliament House, after which the security personnel hurriedly closed almost all the entry gates of the Parliament complex.

Meanwhile, a huge meeting of senior ministers was going on in the office of Union Home Minister Amit Shah inside the Parliament House. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was present in Amit Shah’s office for several hours, and later J.P. Along with Nadda, Kiren Rijiju, Piyush Goyal, BJP President Nitin Naveen also arrived to attend this important meeting.

Union Minister J.P. Giving information on the social media platform ‘X’, Nadda said that for the first time on Monday morning, a proposal for talks with the government came from the protesters, after which the round of talks started from the morning itself. He said that the meeting was held in a very cordial atmosphere, where after oral discussions with the delegation, a written memorandum was also submitted in the evening. Nadda has appealed to all the protesters to end their protest and cooperate with the administration in restoring normalcy in the country.

On the other hand, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das also made it clear on social media that he has been talking to J.P. since afternoon. Be present at Nadda’s residence. He said that all his major demands including the immediate resignation or dismissal of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were put forward strongly in the meeting. However, only assurance has been received from the Minister that this will be discussed at the appropriate level, no concrete guarantee has been given. This is why the organization has made it clear that their peaceful protest will continue until all their demands are met.

Release of Sonam Wangchuk and other main demands

The main demands included in this long list of CJP also include the immediate release of social activist Sonam Wangchuk from the government Safdarjung Hospital. The protesters have serious allegations that they have been kept under house arrest in the hospital against their will. Apart from this, the organization has raised a strong demand for the direct removal of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan from his post for the gross negligence in the conduct of NEET-UG examination and a huge compensation of Rs 1 crore each to the aggrieved families of all the innocent students who committed suicide in this dreadful era of paper leaks.
