Desk. US President Donald Trump’s ongoing efforts in Gaza have suffered a setback. In fact, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Israel will not withdraw from its current positions in Gaza until Hamas completely surrenders its weapons. Following this, Netanyahu also expressed his disagreement with Donald Trump’s recent announcement. Netanyahu’s recent statements have cast further doubt on the Hamas surrender deal, which was considered a major breakthrough towards ending the war. Additionally, this has exposed Netanyahu’s differences with the US administration.
The deal was to begin the process of Hamas surrendering its weapons, and Israel would halt its attacks and begin withdrawing from the 60 percent of Gaza it currently occupies. The deal was based on a ceasefire agreement reached in October, which ended major military operations and secured the release of remaining kidnapped individuals in Gaza, but progress was lacking on other fronts.
Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his position that Hamas should surrender its weapons first. The Israeli military will continue to do whatever is necessary to protect its territory and its citizens.
