Lucknow. An important update has come out regarding the next three-tier Panchayat elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh. The process of determining reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in Panchayat elections is progressing rapidly. For this, the dedicated Backward Classes Commission is visiting various districts of the state and conducting studies at the ground level. The final report of the commission is likely to be ready by February next year.
Survey and study completed in many districts
The Commission has so far visited many districts of the state and studied the participation of backward classes in the Panchayat system. Apart from holding meetings with the officials at the district headquarters, the team is also reaching the block and gram panchayat level to assess the actual situation. During the tours, it is being seen how much is the representation of OBC category in the Panchayats and in which areas the need for reservation is greater.
On what basis will the report be prepared?
The commission will not only rely on population data, but is also analyzing many other aspects. These mainly include the current representation of backward classes in Panchayats, the ratio of population of different areas, social and economic status, participation in elections and the actual status of representation. A detailed report will be prepared on the basis of all these facts.
The tour of the districts will be completed by December
The aim of the commission is to gather ground information by visiting all the districts of the state. For this, districts are being visited in a phased manner. It is likely that the survey and study work will be completed by December, while after that it will take about two months to prepare the report. If everything goes as per schedule, the final report will be submitted to the government by February next year.
There will be a direct impact on Panchayat elections
On the basis of the report of the commission, the form of OBC reservation in Panchayat elections will be decided. Therefore, this report is being considered an important part of the election process. After receiving the report, the government will complete the further legal and administrative process, after which the preparations for the Panchayat elections can be further intensified.
Such a commission was formed for the first time
For the first time in Uttar Pradesh, a dedicated Backward Classes Commission has been constituted to conduct a scientific and detailed study of the reservation of backward classes in Panchayat bodies. Its objective is to prepare the reservation system on a factual basis and reduce the possibility of any legal dispute in future.
