Delhi Capitals batsman Abhishek Porel accused of rape, Kolkata High Court orders his arrest

Kolkata: IPL franchise Delhi Capitals and Bengal’s young cricketer Abhishek Porel are embroiled in a legal dispute. A woman has made serious allegations against him like rape, threats and alleged video recording of private moments. In this case, Kolkata High Court has directed the police to take strict action and ensure the arrest of the cricketer.

The complainant woman alleges that Abhishek Porel had physical relations with her in his flat in Mankundu with the promise of marriage. The woman also claims that the cricketer recorded her personal video, forcibly kept her in the room and later threatened her through phone and social media.

During the hearing of the case, the Kolkata High Court directed the police to immediately seize Abhishek Porel’s mobile phone, laptop and other electronic devices, so as to prevent the possibility of any tampering or leak of the alleged digital evidence. During the investigation, the police also found a pen drive, which is being considered as possible evidence.

On the other hand, Abhishek Porel has termed all the allegations against him as completely baseless and wrong. He says that the complaint is baseless and he will speak in detail on this matter only after the preliminary investigation of the police is completed. At present this case is registered in Mogra Police Station and the police is investigating further.

23-year-old Abhishek Porel represents Bengal in domestic cricket and is a part of Delhi Capitals in the IPL from the year 2023. He scored 108 runs in four innings for the team last season. Till now, apart from playing 35 IPL matches, he has also played 32 first-class and 23 List-A matches.
