His three daughters did not attend the funeral; instead, they bid their father farewell via video call from Nepal, Uttar Pradesh, and Mumbai.
Shivcharan Gupta, a resident of Mumbai, had been living in an old age home run by the Social Welfare Education Committee in West Ram Nagar, Sonipat, for the past one and a half years. His wife, Meena, had already passed away. After a prolonged illness, she breathed her last at around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Following his death, the home management informed his daughters, but they were unable to reach Sonipat.

Shivcharan Ram Ratan Gupta was originally from Mumbai and was previously in the textile business. After his wife’s death, he began living in an old-age home in Sonipat. According to the home’s management, Gupta was very fond of his daughters and frequently communicated with them via the phone installed there. He was proud of his daughters’ achievements and stated that he had dedicated his entire life to their education and upbringing.
After Gupta’s death, the home administration contacted his three daughters and asked them to come to Sonipat. However, the daughters were unable to attend the funeral. With the help of the home management and local residents, the funeral arrangements were made. The three daughters watched their father’s final farewell via video call from different locations.

According to Anand Kumar, Shivcharan Gupta’s daughters were informed of his deteriorating health approximately 20 days before his death. He explained that the management had asked the daughters to visit their father, but they were unable to make it. They were also given the option to travel to Sonipat after Gupta’s death, but the daughters cited time constraints. Kumar stated that they did not have time to travel.
Who sent the money for the funeral?
Gupta’s eldest daughter, Anita, lives in Nepal and is a teacher. She sent ₹5,100 online to arrange the funeral and requested that his father’s last rites be performed with full rituals. The other two daughters, Nisha, live in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, while the youngest, Priya, lives in Mumbai. All three are married and live with their families.
