New Delhi. India is rapidly advancing indigenous drone technology capable of carrying out long-range precision strikes. Developed in this direction, a long-range, one-way attack drone called ‘Kaal’ (The Drone Era) could soon become part of the Indian Army’s fleet. This drone is designed to carry out precision strikes against enemy strategic targets from a distance and could play a key role in enhancing the Indian Army’s firepower in future wars.
According to IG Defence , the company that developed the drone , the “Kaal” is designed to attack deep strategic targets. Its operational range of approximately 1,000 kilometers makes it highly effective for long-range missions. The company says it was developed keeping in mind the needs of modern warfare, where low-cost yet highly accurate unmanned weapons are becoming increasingly important.
The company’s co-founders and officials say that autonomous and long-range systems will play a crucial role in future military operations. They claim that ‘Kal’ could prove to be a key strategic asset for the Indian Army in the coming years. Internationally, it is being compared to long-range attack drones such as Russia’s Geron-2 and America’s Lucas .
Longer flight and heavier payload capability
The Kaal can fly continuously for approximately 7 to 8 hours and carry a payload of up to 50 kilograms . Its maximum speed is approximately 200 kilometers per hour , and it can fly at altitudes up to 5,000 meters . This long-range capability makes it suitable for strategic missions.
Equipped with modern technology
The drone features cutting-edge technologies such as high-resolution and thermal cameras , advanced navigation systems , multi-band GNSS , and encrypted data links . These enable it to effectively perform its mission even in environments prone to electronic jamming and radar surveillance.
Preparation for export
The IG Defence stated that preliminary discussions are underway with some friendly countries regarding the export of this indigenous drone. However, the export of any defense system requires Indian government approval. If approved, ‘KAL’ could become one of the key indigenous platforms boosting India’s defense exports.
