Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s new bet, big investment in solar startup; Now steps will be taken in energy business

Tezzbuzz Desk- Former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is now taking another big step in the world of business. Dhoni has invested in rooftop solar company SolarSquare through his family office Midas Deals. Along with this investment, Dhoni will also play the role of brand ambassador of the company. However, the company has not yet shared the information as to how much amount Dhoni has invested. This investment is part of SolarSquare’s recently completed larger funding round.

SolarSquare has recently raised Series C funding of $53 million i.e. about Rs 510 crore. This funding round was led by the company’s existing investor Lightspeed. Apart from this, investors like Lowercarbon Capital, Rainmatter and Good Capital have also invested money in the company. According to the company, Dhoni’s addition reflects the growing potential of the domestic solar energy sector in India.

After receiving new funding, SolarSquare is preparing to expand its business rapidly. The company plans to extend its services to 30 to 40 new cities in the coming time. Apart from this, the company will also work on strengthening the technology platform, providing better financing options to customers and further improving after-sales service. The company is planning to expand its team through new recruitments.

SolarSquare was started in 2015 by Shreya Mishra, Neeraj Jain and Nikhil Nahar. Initially the company provided solar services to commercial and industrial customers, but in 2021 the company entered the domestic rooftop solar market. Today the company provides facilities like designing, installation, financing, monitoring and maintenance of solar systems to the customers on a single platform.

According to the company, till now it has installed rooftop solar systems in more than 50 thousand houses in 29 cities. The company has raised funding of more than $100 million so far and its annual revenue run rate has reached around Rs 1000 crore.

The demand for clean energy and rooftop solar is continuously increasing in India. Due to rising electricity prices, government schemes and increasing awareness about the environment, investment in this sector is increasing rapidly. SolarSquare believes that there is potential to install rooftop solar in millions of homes in the country. India’s cleantech sector can emerge as a big business opportunity in the coming years.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has already invested in many startups. The investment in SolarSquare is said to be his third startup investment in the year 2026. Apart from Dhoni, many other Indian cricketers are also now becoming active in startups and new businesses. It is clear from this that players are now creating their new identity not only in the sports field but also in the world of business.
