Stock market closed: Stock market collapsed due to rise in crude oil prices, Sensex fell by 715 points; Nifty closed below 24,000
Mumbai The impact of the sharp rise in crude oil prices in the international market was also seen on the domestic stock market on Wednesday. Due to selling pressure for the third consecutive trading session, BSE Sensex fell 715.06 points to close at 76,755.05, while NSE Nifty fell 191.45 points to 23,996.25. Both major indexes closed at their lowest levels since July 9.
Brent crude crosses $95, pressure on market increases
According to analysts, due to increasing tensions in West Asia, the price of Brent crude oil jumped 4.5 percent to cross $ 95 per barrel. The rise in crude oil weakened investor sentiment and widespread selling was seen as soon as the market opened.
Heavy fall in midcap and smallcap shares also
Along with big stocks, midcap and smallcap stocks were also under pressure in the market. The Nifty Midcap-50 index closed with a fall of 1.14 percent and the Smallcap-100 index closed with a fall of 1.54 percent.
Banking, IT and realty sectors are most affected
Except auto and FMCG, almost all sectors recorded a decline. Realty and media sectors fell by more than two and a half percent, while indices of banking, IT, financial services, pharma and healthcare sectors fell by 1 to 2 percent.
Big fall in shares of Indigo, Infosys and SBI
Shares of 24 out of 30 Sensex companies closed in loss. Indigo shares fell the most by 3.57 percent. Apart from this, shares of Infosys, State Bank of India, UltraTech Cement, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Adani Ports, Tech Mahindra, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Sun Pharma also declined. At the same time, shares of Hindustan Unilever, NTPC, PowerGrid and Titan closed with gains.
Mixed trend of global markets
In Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei closed down by 0.18 per cent and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell by 0.95 per cent, while China’s Shanghai Composite was marginally higher. During early trading in European markets, Britain’s FTSE and Germany’s DAX were seen trading with gains.
