New Delhi. Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has indicated that she is ready to end her fast, but for this she has sought some important assurances from the Central Government. He wrote a letter to Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh thanking them for coming to the hospital to meet him and appealing to end the fast. Wangchuk said that during the talks, he received assurance from the government to take a positive stance on some of his demands.

In the letter, Wangchuk demanded that appropriate compensation be given to the families of students who committed suicide following the paper leak case. Also, there should be a serious discussion in the Parliament on the entire matter and issues like resignation of the Education Minister should also be considered to fix accountability.
Referring to the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march organized on July 20, he said that despite the strictness of the police, the demonstration remained completely peaceful. According to him, the country and the world saw that the protesters were expressing their views in a democratic manner. He expressed hope that there will be no legal action or harassment against the youth involved in the movement.
Wangchuk said that after meeting the Union Ministers, about 65 MPs from different political parties have written letters to them appealing to end the fast. Many MPs have met him, while some will meet him soon. He said the MPs reminded him that his contribution to the country and society is still pending.
He said that he wants to return to his students and the field of education, but cannot compromise with the youth for whom this movement was started. For this reason, he has sought an unconditional assurance from the government that no punitive or retaliatory action will be taken against any student or youth protestor involved in the movement. Wangchuk clearly said that if the government gives this assurance, he will end his fast with confidence. But if this does not happen, their indefinite fast will continue. He also expressed hope to stop the excessive use of police force against the protesters.
